Pain, Injury & Whole-Life Wellbeing

Established in 2006 on Gloucester Road, The Family Practice is a senior osteopath-led clinic providing skilled, thoughtful care for people of all ages - from babies and teenagers to adults, athletes and older patients.

Founded by husband and wife osteopaths Nick and Juliana Hounsfield, and shaped over the years by a family of osteopaths working together - including Nick’s father Brian, his sister Wendy, Juliana’s brother Dougal and Dougal’s wife Tania - the clinic has always been grounded in shared clinical standards, continuity and long-term commitment to the Bristol community.

Today, the practice continues to be led by Juliana, alongside Dougal and Tania.

We are called The Family Practice not only because we are a family of osteopaths, but because we care for individuals and families at every stage of life.

Rooted in family.
Grounded in medical science.
Trusted in Bristol since 1996.

Osteopathy in Bristol - Skilled, Thorough, Hands-On

Osteopathy is a regulated primary healthcare profession with university-level training in anatomy, physiology, pathology and clinical diagnosis.
At The Family Practice, your appointment is not simply a treatment session - it is a comprehensive clinical assessment. We are trained to evaluate and diagnose musculoskeletal conditions independently, and to determine whether treatment, further investigation or referral is most appropriate.

We regularly support people with:

• Back pain and sciatica
• Neck pain and headaches
• Shoulder, hip and knee injuries
• Sports injuries and training-related strain
• Teenage growth-related pain
• Persistent or complex musculoskeletal pain
• Postural strain and nerve-related symptoms

Treatment may include gentle mobilisation, manipulation, soft tissue techniques, cranial approaches and tailored movement guidance.

Unlike exercise-only rehabilitation models, osteopathy combines diagnostic skill with skilled manual treatment - helping your body move, adapt and recover with greater resilience.
